Jake Spero
Jake has been serving as President of Biking for a Better World since January 2006, when the organization was formed. He was one of the four riders on BBW’s first ride from Alaska to Argentina. His ideas were the inspiration behind the A2A ride and the creation of the non-profit.
Jake began his bike tour career in 2001 with a 4000 mile ride across the US called Buffalo to Burbank, raising funds for Cradle Beach Camp, which serves the needs of disadvantaged children. This was his first foray into bike tours and it inspired him to continue pedaling for charity. In 2003, he set out with three friends on a 2000 mile ride from Tahoe to Texas for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. BBW was formed in 2006, and he was able to live his dream of pedaling across two continents.
Duncan Sisson
Duncan played a major role in the establishment of Biking for a Better World. Not only did he help form the organization, but was also part of BBW’s first ride, Alaska to Argentina in 2007.
Duncan is extremely passionate about cycling, traveling, helping those less fortunate, the outdoors and skiing. The changing seasons dictate what equipment he will use to explore the outdoors. When his thoughts are not focused on BBW, he works at Alpine Meadows Ski Resort as a professional ski patroller and his summers are spent on water, commercial fishing in Bristol Bay, Alaska.
Duncan graduated from Hartwick College in 2002, and holds a B.A. in Philosophy. One week after receiving his diploma, Duncan made the move to Lake Tahoe, CA.
Other bike tour projects Duncan has completed include Montana to Mexico, 2009, and Tahoe to Texas, 2003.
Kris Thomas
Kris is an avid skier and mountain biker who was brought on to help out with web content and marketing in August 2010. Growing up in Littleton, Colorado, Kris was raised to understand the value of outdoor activity and the friendships that arise from these activities. Kris has been a familiar face at Biking for a Better World events since the team was organizing for the Alaska to Argentina ride in 2007.
When he isn’t working on BBW projects, he is a bicycle mechanic by day in the summer, and in the winter he tunes skis at night. Kris is committed to creating and sharing outdoor adventures that revolve around skiing and biking. He is still green to long distance bike tours but is looking forward to planning a mountain bike tour for summer 2011.
